A study by the Wuppertal Institute for the Federal Environment Agency
If it is about sustainable development, the topic resource use is highly important, both on the national and EU level. The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety is currently developing an action programme to increase resource efficiency. With the help of this, it should be made sure that the aims of the German sustainability strategy are achieved, which means a doubling of the productivity of energy and raw materials until 2020 on the basis of 1990 respective 1994. To implement these strategies, a clear-cut term for "resources" and related issues is indispensable. Helmut Schütz and Stefan Bringezu from the Wuppertal Institute compiled the study "Resource consumption of Germany – indicators and definitions". The final report of the study was now published by the Federal Environment Agency, the commissioner of the study.
