In March 2007 the German government established the Resource Efficiency Network. Its main goal is to make Germany the world's most resource-efficient economy by the year 2020. The network aims to tap the specific competencies of different groups in society and help promote the exchange of information and experience. The network is intended to "network the networks" and promote favourable conditions for innovation. This is to be achieved by - Elaborating the concept behind the Resource Efficiency Network and developing options such as:
- promoting initiatives for pilot projects, demo projects and competitions,
- creating a shared Vision 2020/2050 concept going beyond the timeframe envisaged for the sustainability strategy,
- communicating to a wider audience via newsletters (incl. development of a newsletter concept and logo), supporting competitions / awards and conferences, interfacing with other networks (in Germany, the EU and internationally), developing participants' agenda-setting activities,
- developing a concept for the transfer of information and knowledge to participating institutions and/or key communicators,
- mediating between different parties by holding informal background discussions on controversial topics,
- Holding network meetings,
- Designing and establishing an internet-based information platform,
- Preparing and discussing project findings from an early stage, participating in the implementation of activities in the Work Packages (e.g. the communications approaches in Work Package 13),
- Participating in the major conferences planned.
Participators Work Package 10: - Effizienz-Agentur NRW
- Deutsche Materialeffizienzagentur (demea)
- Wuppertal Institut für Klima, Umwelt, Energie
